Three chapbooks, mostly poetry with some prose, by Alta, the feminist poet, publisher, and founder of the pioneering Oakland- and Berkeley-based feminist press Shameless Hussy, which published many significant books of poetry by women, including Ntozake Shange's For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide / When the Rainbow is Enuf. The present gathering of her own writing, characterized by a mixed tone of playful irreverence, incisive observation, and sensual lyricism, includes one early chapbook self-published by Shameless Hussy Press, as well as two more by allied small press ventures, spanning the most active years of Alta's writing and publishing.
