A small propaganda booklet from the Mexican government under popular socialist president Lazaro Cardenas. Apparently aimed at an American audience, the booklet presents an English translation of a speech delivered by Cardenas to the Mexican people concerning a landmark in his extensive policy of agrarian land reform, in which larger, private landholdings (haciendas) were expropriated and broken up into smaller, collectively held ones (ejidos). These reforms created tension with the U.S. in particular because some of the expropriated land was in fact owned or operated by American companies, a tension which in part forms the background for English-language propaganda efforts such as the present booklet. Not in OCLC.
