12mo (7" x 4 ½"); unpaginated common place book; vellum over board, brass clasp on fore-edge; all edges marbled in red and blue; glazed and marbled eps; bookseller ticket on front pastedown "Fredk. Hinton, wholesale and Retail STATIONER, No. 24, Upper Street, Islington."; numbered front index; all writing in ink in a neat hand; spotting to boards, light hand wear; very good plus.

The personal cookery and home remedy book of E. Fox. Written in ink in a neat, readable hand, the entries are numbered in the index and the pages. A few numbers are duplicated and a few are out of order. The recipes include those for household management including "To Clean a White Ostrich Feather," "To Extract Grease Spots from Books," and "To restore the colour of French merino which has been splashed with mud." Cures for common ailments, "Mosquito bites" and "Flatulaence" as well as for serious illnesses, "Probable cure for Diptheria" and "Mixture for Cholera or diarrhea" are included. Recipes for interesting foods include how to make "Cherry Gin," "Preserving Eggs," and a receipe for making "Kedgeree" with credit to "Miss Curry."
