Freiburg im Breisgau, 1764. CONTEMPORARY WRAPPERS OF GILT AUGSBURG BROCADE PAPER (Johann Carl Munck no. 5; see below).

This records Braunegger's doctoral defense and graduation ceremony at Freiburg under the auspices of the Medical Faculty and of his supervisor, Franz Josua Lambert Baader (1723-73), ordinary of Medicine and Chemistry and director of the university's botanical garden.
On 20 June 1764, Braunegger was summoned to the city's cathedral to discuss two points assigned to him twenty-four hours before. The first was practical: the case of a girl of phlegmatic temperament having her first menstruation at sixteen. The second was theoretical: a discussion of the pros and cons of different systems of bloodletting. At the ensuing graduation ceremony, which took place on 4 July, Braunegger received a doctoral robe and hood, a cap, a tiara, a necklace, a ring, two books, the academic kiss and a blessing.
Decorated paper manufacturer J.C. Munck (1730-94) was "among the most important in Augsburg" (Kopylov, tr.). In excellent condition.
¶Raccolta Bertarelli. Carte decorate 1109; see Kopylov's Papiers dorés d'Alllemagne p. 172.
