1853 printed fundraising circular for the American Missionary Association, established just a few years earlier in an attempt to create an abolitionist missionary organization. Single bifold sheet with one page of printed text, 10" x 8" page size, with handwritten address panel sent to Edward Hayden in East Hartford.

Apparently unrecorded, the circular directly references the establishment of home missions in the Southern United States and the exclusion of slaveholders from their congregations:

Our Home Missions at the West are multiplying, and God is blessing them with the revival of his work. Success has been given to the labors of our missionaries in the Slave States, and several churches have been established, from which, by the terms of communion, the slaveholder is excluded...
