Santa Barbara, CA: Simplemente Maria Press, 2026. One of twenty copies, all volumes signed by Heebner.. Hardcover. Fine. Four octavo vols. Variously paginated. Heebner's latest musing on Greek mythology interweaves four tales: Leda and the Swan (Leda's Swan Dance), Castor and Pollux (Brother Love/Dioskuroi), Hades and Persephone (Persephone Down Deep), and Thetis, the mother of Achilles (Thetis of the Wine Dark Sea). As is Heebner's wont, the books began from handmade, marbled, and hand-painted paper collages, and each volume ends with a fold-out, scaled pigment print of each referenced piece. The work is, too, itself a collage of Heebner's previous work, made of scrap material saved from earlier projects, including Intimacy (2017) and Hamlet (2008). The title pages of the volumes are directly painted with acrylic inks, affording a series of saturated openings to Heebner's poetic reinterpretations of the myths, alongside her cut-outs collaged throughout and printed directly on the paper. Leda attends to dreams, transformations, and raptures; Brother Love with the formation of Time itself; Persephone with the relationships between mothers and daughters; and Thetis with grief. Each book bound in dropback boards covered in red, blue, gray, or tan papers. Held in white acrylic, four-slotted slipcase. Fine.
