First edition of this 1930s guide book to the Soviet Union, with the ownership inscription of African physician and medical administrator J. Clarence Chambers Jr., then of the Harlem Hospital, to the front pastedown. Illustrated guide book collated complete with six maps present (one being double-sided) with large color foldout map of Moscow opposite the title page, along with numerous full color advertisements included throughout text.

A scarce book produced for tourists to the Soviet Union during the peak of Stalinist repression, made all the more fascinating by the ownership inscription of an African American physician. An alumnus of Amherst College, J. Clarence Chambers Jr. (d. 2006) interned at Harlem Hospital in the 1930s before becoming an administrator there, before being appointed as medical superintendent for the New York City Department of Hospitals.
