Lovely example of colorful and diverse typefaces adorning this commercial letterhead from the Office of Joseph S. Johnson, Dealer in Oars, "Spoon Oars a Specialty," 152 Commercial Street in Boston. Date July 12, 1878, the missive is delightfully passive aggressive, addressed to a Mr. Batchelder regarding a check for $10: "Find enclosed a check...which I promised some time ago, not that it is justly due to you as I have paid you every cent I owe you; but to satisfy you, as you may have made much if any thing on the last lot. So I *give* you the amount, & I want you to consider it so for no consideration.
