Chicago: Coburn & Newman, 1882. Very good.. Various paginations. Original red cloth, stamped in black and gilt. Corners bumped, extremities rubbed, light soiling. Ownership inscription on front pastedown. Internally clean. A salesman's dummy for this life of the James Brothers, published hot on the heels of Jesse James' death. The work is extensively illustrated, with sample chapters and the table of contents. The rear board has spine samples for blue and red cloth, and the ad at the end of the text notes that the work was available in blue cloth for $2 and in red cloth with a silk finish for $2.50. This canvasser wasn't all that productive, as no subscribers' signatures are present on the blanks at the end.
