Chicago, Illinois: American Medical Association Press, 1913. Very good. Light toning, dust soiling, surface wear to wrappers. Spotting, rust-staining from staples.. An early 1910s booklet penned by a physician for prepubescent girls, teaching them about biology, where babies come from, and finishing with a brief reference to menstruation and growth into "womanhood". Cover title: The Doctor's Daughter - A Story for Girls. Written as fiction, from the point of view of a respected physician speaking with his curious daughter and guiding her through the subjects. Emphasizes the girl's responsibility to protect the "temple of her spirit", i.e., or sex organs and virginity. A good example of the kind of sex education advised by doctors at the time: frank but conservative conversations in the home between parent and child. Leaves the "nitty gritty" of menstrual education to the mother. Single vol. (7.5" by 5.25"), pp. 46, [2], in original printed wrps.
