Printed and bound by The Printing House of William Edwin Rudge. First published in the Nation & Athenaeum, a British weekly newspaper, on September 28, 1929. This publication, one of Woolf's shorter essays, gives a brief biography of British socialite and fashion icon Beau Brummell. Though Virginia Woolf is best known for her novels and short stories, distinctive stream-of-consciousness writing style, and extended essays on feminism and mental illness, she also authored many short essays including biographical works of influential figures from George Eliot to Henry James, Mary Wollstonecraft and Sir Walter Raleigh. Her essay on Beau Brummell was published in the interim between two of her most famous works, Orlando and The Waves. Woolf is considered to be one of the most influential writers of the 20th century. Boards show some light discoloration, otherwise in very good condition. Scarce signed edition of Virginia Woolf's essay Beau Brummell.
