New Braunfels, Tx: October 28, 1865. Good.. Partially-printed document, completed in manuscript, 9.75 x 7.75 inches. Top third neatly detached along horizontal fold line, old folds, with minor losses along fold lines, not affecting text, minor edge wear. A rare loyalty oath from postwar Texas, affirming that Johann Mergenthal of Comal County "has taken the oath of amnesty as prescribed in the Amnesty Proclamation of the President of the United States, and that he has been placed on the Register of the County of Comal as a voter." The document is signed in ink by both the Chief Justice and County Clerk of Comal County. Completed amnesty oath forms from Texas are quite scarce on the market.
