Orion, Illinois, 1888. Very good. Occasional toning, dust soiling, water stains. Text block loose in one of the notebooks.. Four (4) manuscript composition notebooks belonging to Myrtle Fulton, a talented Fulton County, Illinois student aged 16 in 1888. Myrtle had a remarkable talent for cartography; one would not know from her drawings of the continents that she was only 16 when she compiled these notebooks.

Each of the four notebooks has ownership inscriptions by Myrtle, along with her school (Franklin School), township (Orion), age (16), and the teacher of each subject. The books are outlines and categorized by local, explorer or chronology. The notebooks include:

[American History and Civics]. 4to (8.5" by 7"), 53 unnumbered pages all with ink manuscript, followed by 9 blank leaves. Sewn in original illustrated wrappers backed in tan cloth, printed label pasted to upper wrapper.

[American History and Civics]. 4to (9.5" by 7.75"), 40 unnumbered pages filled with ink manuscript, followed by 4 blank leaves. Outlined by explorer geographic location and chronology. Sewn in original illustrated wrappers backed in red cloth.

[Geography]. 4to (9" by 7.5"), 102 unnumbered pages, all but one filled with ink manuscript, and including several large hand-drawn maps of continents and European countries. Sewn in original illustrated red wrappers backed in navy cloth, printed label pasted on upper wrapper.
